How To Protect Your Skin From Pollution And Technology

There has been a rapid growth in technology in the last decade. The increase in the use of technology has led to an increase in pollution, which is affecting human health, especially our skin. Various air pollutants have a significant effect on the skin, as it is the outermost barrier of the human body. From nasty acne and whiteheads to signs of ageing like dullness and wrinkles, pollution can be a real enemy of healthy, glowing skin. Given the increasing levels of air pollutioneach day and itsdetrimental impact on the skin, skin care should be an essential part of a healthy life.

Each one of us is now pursuing healthier, younger-looking skin, and trying to learn more about how to take care of their body's largest organ. To protect your skin and keep it bright and glowing, a skin care regime needs to be implemented every day, for which a wide variety of skin products are available in the market. Although there are essential differences in the skin of men and women – for example, a man's skin is thicker than a woman's – the fundamental elements of an effective skin care regime remain the same.

It is essential that you identify and understand your skin type to prepare an effective skin care plan:

A) Sensitive skin may sting or burn after use of a product

B) Normal skin is clear and not too sensitive

C) Oily skin is shiny and greasy

D) Dry skin is flaky, itchy or rough

After you identify your skin type, you can select the right skin care products.

The following tips will help you develop a healthy skin care routine:

1. Read the product labels and ingredients: If you have acne-prone skin, look for products that say "oil-free". Individuals with sensitive skin can use mild, "fragrance-free" products, as products containing fragrances can leave the skin feeling irritated and dry.

2. Wash your face daily and when needed: Regular bar soap contains harsh ingredients that can dry the skin. Wash your face with a mild facial cleanser and lukewarmwater.

3. Watch your shaving technique: Before you shave, wet your skin to soften the hair, andshave in the direction of hair growth. Usea moisturising shaving creamto prevent dryness of the skin. Rinse the razor after each swipe.

4. Moisturise daily:A moisturiser can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and make your skin look young. After taking a shower, make it a habit to apply some moisturiser to the skin immediately while the skin is still damp.

5. Check your skin regularly: New moles that itch, bleed or change colour are sometimes early warning signs of skin cancer. If you notice any such spots, make an appointment to see a dermatologist. Men over the age of 50 have a higher risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. However, when caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.

6. Wear sunscreen whenever outdoors: Apply sunscreen to all exposed areas of the skin to help prevent sun damage that can lead to wrinkles and or skin cancer. For the best protection, use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and reapply after swimming. You can also protect your skin with protective clothing and seek shade.

Every individual’s skin is different. If you are unable to decide your skin type or if you have questions about how to take care of your skin, visit a dermatologist. After all, the first impression is often the last impression!
