Human personality is reflected by their money habits

Every individual has his/her way of spending money in order to fulfil their varying needs & interests. But do you know it can reveal your personality?

People got different categories in which they divide their earnings. This can be used to infer certain personality traits such as how materialistic they are or how much self-control they tend to have.

As per a study, it is possible to predict people's personality by observing the way they spend their money.

During the study, the participants were asked to complete a personality survey that included questions determining materialism, self-control, sincerity to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, amiability and neuroticism.

The researchers used a machine learning technique to analyse whether participants' relative spending across categories was predictive of specific traits. Overall, the correlations between the model predictions and participants' personality trait scores were modest.

Taking a gander at explicit relationships between spending classes and attributes, the specialists found that individuals who were increasingly open to experience would, in general, spend more on flights, the individuals who were progressively outgoing would, in general, make all the more eating and drinking buys, the individuals who were increasingly pleasant given more to charity, the progressively honest individuals placed more cash into investment funds and the progressively materialistic individuals spent more on jewellery and less on the donation part.

It was observed that the individuals who revealed better self-control spent less on bank charges and the individuals who evaluated higher on neuroticism spent less on home loan instalments.

They found some clear applications in the banking and financial services industries, which likewise raises potential moral difficulties. For example, financial services firms could use personality predictions to recognize people with specific attributes, for example, people with low self-control and after that they focus on those people with a variety of domains, from online advertising to direct mail, researchers said.
