TUMMY TUCK SURGERY
Description
Medically called as Abdominoplasty, tummy tuck surgery is a surgery that is adopted to remove the fat and excess skin from the middle and the lower abdomen, tighten the abdominal muscles and give a more firm and smoother profile.
Tummy Tuck Surgery is of 2 types:
- Complete Tummy Tuck Surgery
- Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery
An Abdominoplasty is performed when the abdominal skin is loose and saggy that has generally developed due to multiple pregnancies. It can also be performed on those people who have developed a sagging skin because of excess weight loss.
Pre Procedure
- The patient is advised to stop smoking completely.
- In addition, certain blood tests will be required before the procedure and blood-thinning medications need to be stopped before the procedure.
- The patient should be fasting 8 hours prior to the surgery.
During Procedure
The surgery is performed under the influence of general anaesthesia. The procedure of complete tummy tuck surgery can take about 5 hours whereas mini tummy tuck surgery can take about 1-2 hours.
1. Complete Tummy Tuck surgery:
The first cut is done on the lower abdomen above the pubic area whereas the other cut is made to free the belly button.
Excess fat and skin are removed from the abdominal region and the incisions are sutured. Excess fluids are drained.
2. Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery:
In this procedure, a smaller cut is required.
Excess fat and skin is removed from the abdominal region is removed. The muscles around the abdomen aren't tightened neither the belly button is repositioned.
It is performed along with certain surgeries such as body contouring and breast lift to give a better profile.
Post Procedure
- After the procedure, pain and swelling will be present.
- In order to prevent clot formation the doctor may recommend walking.
-The scars that might result from the surgery will lighten with time.
