ACNE SCAR REDUCTION SURGERY

 

            


Description:

Acne is a condition through which every teenager goes. It can arise due to various reasons one of them being hormonal changes.

Also called as Dermabrasion, it is a procedure in which a rapidly rotating device is used in order to even out the outer surface of the skin.

It helps to improve the appearance of the scars caused due to acne or pimples.

It is performed by cosmetologists and usually done in conjunction with other cosmetic surgeries.

 

Pre Procedure

In this the patient is generally advised to avoid excess exposure to the sun as it can lead to hyper-pigmentation.

- Blood thinning medications are stopped.

- The doctor may also advise to stop smoking as it interferes with the healing process.

- In certain cases, the surgeon may advise the patient to use a retinoid cream in order to speed up the healing process after the surgery.


During Procedure

The surgeon uses a small motorized device which makes use of an abrasive brush or a wheel across the scarred skin with some pressure.

- The skin?s outer layer is then removed to reveal a new, smoother and younger looking skin.

- The procedure may take some time depending on how much part of the skin is to be covered.

- In cases of deep scarring the patient may require multiple sittings.


Post Procedure

The skin that is treated shall become swollen and red for a few days because of the procedure which shall however heal over time.

- A scab is generally seen over the area that is treated which heals as time proceeds.

- Pain medications are recommended, such as Ibuprofen in order to ease the pain.



Risk Complications

Pores may be enlarged

- Changes in skin colour may be observed along with scarring and infection.
