Are You Eating Ink? Stop Wrapping Food In Newspaper
We Indians are pretty much into local and junk foods and we just can’t stop craving for it, but have you thought what you are eating is covered with ink? Relax; we are not talking about food, but the wrapping. Advisory issued by India's food regulator expressed that the utilization of daily papers for packing and wrapping of food items, a common practice of street merchants, represents a health hazard.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) confined the utilization of newspapers and packaging material as the utilization of food wrapped in the newspapers were damaging to health, regardless of the possibility that the food has been cooked hygienically. Risk of diseases is increasing due to newspapers being broadly used as food packaging material by small hotels, merchants and also in homes instead of absorbent paper. Printing ink contains harmful pigments, chemical fasteners, and different harmful added substances which cause dangers to human health if consumed.
The Health Risks of Lead in Newspapers:
Newspaper ink contains substantial metals like lead and cadmium, which has an adverse effect on health – particularly in case of youngsters. The FSSAI has cautioned that few of the chemicals that filter into your food from the newspaper are known as cancer-causing agents and can increase your risk of cancer. Especially when you buy something oily, excess oil is absorbed by the paper, thus the mixing of ink in food is quite obvious.
Highest risk from newspaper wrapped food:
It is mainly cautioned to kids, seniors, and those with compromised organ capacity, and individuals with a weakened immune system as they are more likely to problems related to health if they are presented with food stuffed in the newspaper.
The Health Minister JP Nadda stated, "It has been watched that sellers have been utilizing newspapers in packing and serving food, which is very harmful. I request the public to discourage the merchants from doing as such."
It is necessary that we strictly accept the notice of this guidance and we ask individuals to create awareness and to ask for different packing material when buying food from roadside vendors. After all, your healthy life is in your hand.
